The MDI series is a plunger-type metric dial indicator graduated in 0.01 mm, with 0-3, 0-5 and 0-10 mm measuring ranges. That is the standard graduation for general shop work — 0.001 mm belongs to a separate, finer model line. It is analog and general purpose, not a lever-type test indicator and not digital. Precision here comes down to the movement: jewel bearings carry the spindle, which is what keeps it smooth rather than sticky. The steel body takes the knocks a shop hands out. The tolerance indicator is internal, so your limits travel with the gauge. Both a flat back and a lug back come in the box, which is what saves you when the stand you already own does not match the indicator you just bought.
